Home purchase official!

A number of my more faithful readers are probably aware that Lisa and I have been working on buying a house. It’s a beautiful house and will make for a lovely home for us. However, I had been skeptical about posting about it, as it reminded me somewhat of the Jeep incident (reference links), and I was afraid that if I brought it up, it might not happen.

Well, let me tell you – we’ve been approved! Also, the house has already had an inspection and things are perfect. It’s a lovely three bedroom, two bath home, 1650 or so square feet, in a lovely neighborhood in the southeast part of town (which, if you go west a few miles, isn’t so great, but we’re well past that section of town). It also has a sunroom that’s been fully finished/heated/cooled, so it’s like a fourth room with no explicit purpose. There’s a large great room, and a fireplace too.

We don’t get to close for like a month, but that’s okay. Fortunately, we only have to give thirty days notice where we’re at now – no issues with any leases or anything.

It still doesn’t feel real, but I’m sure as it approaches it will. I mean, we’ll be packing and whatnot. When we first got married, we were moving like every six months, but we’ve been where we’re at now for roughly two and a half years, and so we’ve had a little time to settle in and accumulate stuff. Our office is a giant wreck, which I’ve been working on cleaning up and cleaning out, since Lisa is out of town on business. She gets back tomorrow night, and I’m quite glad about that.

So, yeah. We’re buying a home! Very exciting.

Hidden beauty

Having these roses on my desk, and watching them open up, helps me to understand why it is that women generally seem to love flowers. Yesterday, these roses were much more closed. Today, they have opened up some, and it’s quite amazing. There are so many layers that I’ve just never noticed. Also, as they open, the fragrance spreads more, giving my office a nice and pleasant scent.

While part of me feels kind of silly for finding such a joy and pleasure in this little discovery, I also feel glad. It’s interesting to gain an understanding that you didn’t hold at one time. The small joys are sometimes the best.

Four years

I would be remiss if I were to not mention that today is my fourth wedding anniversary! I was really sleepy when I got out of bed this morning, and didn’t snap until Lisa had left for the day, but fortunately she hadn’t either. With all of the busy activities going on lately, we simply just spaced out about it. To make up for it, she went and bought me flowers!

Lisa, every single day you amaze me with your love for me. Some days, I don’t know why you stick with me, because I can be a real idiot at times. However, I am so glad that you do. You complete me. You are the greatest thing to have ever happened to me, and I am thankful for you and your support on a daily basis. In some ways, it’s hard to believe it’s already been four years, and in others, it’s hard to believe it’s only been four years. I love my time with you. The way you make me feel with your smile is greater than anything ever. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead of us in our future, and I look forward to growing old by your side. I love you Lisa, more than anything, more than ever.

Mass Linkage

So, WordPress has this handy-dandy link thingy going on, so I’m going to start using it. I already have been a little bit, for things such as my daily blog reads. However, it could be handy to do comic reads too, so I’ve put the list of comics I check. I didn’t realize the list was so huge, because in Firefox, I just have one big bookmark folder, and I open that in tabs, and it all loads while I do other stuff. I come back to it and read and enjoy. It works well.

But anyways, yeah, there’s a list of comics there on the side. I also took the time to put in AJ‘s more current blogs, and made a small section for links that are directly related to me. Right now, all it has is a link to the gallery, which was sorely missing. More to come soon, I’m sure.

Eventually, one of these days I’ll probably write some nice thing to manage all of my links and have one big mass link page with links for everything, but I’m not sure. We’ll see how it goes. I’d love to do a link blog on the side, to post fun things into, much like is done over on Binary Bonsai, but then I fear nobody will see it. I’ll just post them here I suppose. I haven’t done that in awhile though, so maybe I’ll get back into that. I know that at least once a day I run into an interesting link. Maybe I can also make use of the categories feature that WordPress provides. Oh well.

Old is new again

Yeah, so I’ve been bad at posting – I was hoping for some more comments on the music thing. I’ll post answers to it soonish. I have the list at work, although I’d hope I could recall my own list from memory. Anyways, more on that later.

As some of you may know, Nintendo decided to re-release a few NES classics for the Game Boy Advance. Their pricing scheme is ridiculous ($20 per game, as opposed to a collection for $20 like everyone else), but nonetheless, the nostalgia is cool.

One other thing they did is release a retro style GBA SP – it almost looks like a small NES on the outside, and the inside looks and feels like an old NES controller. I’m loving it. When I had to switch from my platinum GBA SP to my black one (as seen in a prior entry that I don’t feel like looking up right now to link to), it felt weird – but this one is a very welcome change. It feels a lot like the plat one, just with some decorative work done. I’ve used my cam phone to snap a couple of pictures of it, which I’m going to post thumbnails of – click the thumbnail for a larger version.

Also, there’s some potential big news that I’m sure most of my faithful readers already know about, but if you don’t, it’ll be announced soon, I think. Very exciting.

Music Game

I’ve seen this meme floating about the ‘net, but I’m going to credit Mark Z. for motivating me to actually bother with it.

So, here’s the deal. The official rules are “On your current playlist, hit shuffle and pick the first twenty songs on the list (no matter how cheesy or embarrassing), and write down your favourite line of the song. Try to avoid putting the song title in the line. Then, have your friends comment and see if they know the songs.” That means that if you recognize something, please leave a comment, listing the number, song title, and artist. I’m wondering if anyone will be able to name more than a couple. I had to skip a lot (since a lot of my stuff is techno with very repetitive lyrics, usually involving the song title), and so I tried to get a mix of “Yeah, I know that song!” to “What in the heck does he listen to?”

  1. I was walkin’ around, trying to put it down, in total darkness
  2. Give me the microphone first so I can bust like a bubble / Compton and Long Beach together, now you know you in trouble
  3. I want a girl with uninterrupted prosperity / who uses a machete to cut through red tape
  4. I like the way you wiggle, you don’t jingle but you jiggle / so spread over your love because it’s Heavy in the middle
  5. She said, step in my transporter / so I can teleport ya / all around my heavenly body
  6. Today is a special day, not just any day / cause you can have anything you want your way (this was hard)
  7. Go on and jump, yeah, into the hurricane / You will forget the pain, it’s only there to open up your mind
  8. There are lots of boys around, but special ones are very rare / there aren’t many to be found, we’ve been looking everywhere
  9. How many nights I’ve laid in bed excited over you / I’ve closed my eyes and thought of us a hundred different ways
  10. Tell me, tell me, the words to define / the way I feel about someone so fine
  11. What I’ve felt, what I’ve known, never shined through in what I’ve shown / Never be, never see, won’t see what might have been
  12. I miss you, I wanna kiss you, the sweet scent of roses is in your hair / See sometimes, when I get lonely, I still feel you beside me, when you’re not there
  13. Though I respect that a lot, I’d be fired if that were my job / After killing Jason off and countless screaming Argonauts
  14. Oh yeah, you gotta do the best you can / and work out twice a day / don’t ask me why I said it / because I already forgot
  15. They say that the road ain’t no place to start a family / but right down the line it’s been you and me
  16. I’m taking it back to the old school / Cause I’m an old fool who’s so cool
  17. Ain’t nothin’ better, we beat the odds together / I’m glad we didn’t listen, look at what we would be missin’
  18. Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea / All we do, crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
  19. I dream of lovers past and / I see a girl so sad cause / she lost the only man she loved
  20. You tried to shove me back inside your narrow room / and silence me with bitterness and lies

By the way, if you do this meme on your blog, you should probably be doing twenty songs too. It seems to be the standard. Good luck! Participate!

I’ve been bad

I feel some guilt – I was posting better on my trip than I have this week. For shame.

So, some trip wrap-up – after the last post, I met with my aunt and mom at the mall, where my aunt proceeded to buy me just about everything in the store that said “Carcassonne” on it. Of the six Carcassonne-related boxes in the store, she bought me five – the core game, three expansions, and a special two-player only version called Carcassonne: the Castle. Unfortunately, I still haven’t had a chance to play it. Soon, soon.

After that, we went back to her place and rested and visited until it was time for us to leave. The flights back were fairly uneventful, although for landing in Denver, they prepped us like we were going in without landing gear or something, as the turbulence was supposed to be really bad. It wasn’t, thankfully. We had dinner there, a fast-food sandwich shop that I’ve never heard of before, and then flew home. I can’t begin to tell you how happy I was to see Lisa – and boy, she was looking great! The next time she wears that skirt and top, I’ll have to take a picture, because they’re just awesome.

The rest of this week has been pretty uneventful, just lots going on at work.

Tonight is my best friend Nasser’s bachelor party. The plan is to go to this bar/pool hall for the first part of the evening, go to another place afterwards, then stay the night at his home. We will wake up and play video games for a number of hours. It should be fun, although I do feel like, in a way, I’m abandoning Lisa. I mean, I’m going to be gone for roughly 24 hours or so. Maybe not that much, but you get the idea.

We just had our power go out as I was writing this. I’m so glad that I’m working on a laptop. It’s already back on, but it saved me from having to re-write this, which would have stank.

So yeah, it was a good trip, but I’m glad to be home. I’ll try to post and moblog more soon.
